Maple Leaf Farms' policy on slavery and human trafficking
This policy covers all Maple Leaf Farms, Inc. employees, its related business divisions, suppliers and co-packers.
Maple Leaf Farms, Inc. supports the goals of the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 and is in compliance with all applicable laws related to slavery and human trafficking. This upholds the ideas that we were founded upon: contribution to local communities, responsibility for the environment, respect for others and insistence on high quality. Our focus has been to produce safe, high-quality foods in a thoughtful and responsible manner. We expect our suppliers to do the same, and Maple Leaf Farms reserves the right to perform periodic audits of its suppliers to determine compliance with laws related to slavery and human trafficking.
Maple Leaf Farms certifies the following as to slavery and human trafficking:
(1) Maple Leaf Farms does not engage in the slave trade or human trafficking;
(2) Maple Leaf Farms does not employ individuals through force, coercion, fraud or deception;
(3) Maple Leaf Farms has not used and will not use any labor which is forced, bonded or indentured;
(4) Work performed by its employees in the production and sale of Maple Leaf Farms' products is voluntary and is not forced labor;
(5) Employees of Maple Leaf Farms are at-will and are free to depart employment with the company at any time upon reasonable notice; and
(6) Maple Leaf Farms has no reason to believe that the foregoing statements are not true with respect to suppliers to Maple Leaf Farms whose services or goods relate to the products produced and sold by Maple Leaf Farms, in the countries in which such suppliers conduct business.
Maple Leaf Farms, Inc. expects that its suppliers comply with all applicable laws, including, specifically, laws related to slavery and human trafficking, and the following statements.
(1) Suppliers will not engage in the slave trade or human trafficking;
(2) Suppliers will not employ individuals through force, coercion, fraud or deception or use any labor which is forced, bonded or indentured;
(3) Work performed by suppliers' employees is voluntary and is not forced labor;
(4) Suppliers will permit Maple Leaf Farms to audit their labor practices upon request and upon reasonable notice; and
(5) The products and any materials incorporated into any products suppliers sell to Maple Leaf Farms were produced under circumstances in which there was compliance with laws regarding human trafficking and slavery in each country in which the supplier does business.
